As we said in the previous post, dak planned to compile an old BeOs media editor in Haiku; however, many problems happened regarding the framework for the BeApi, because the support for BeOs was gradually abandoned.
We decided to start a new project, the Faber Media Editor, a multi-track audio editor (and video, in the future) with native support for Haiku. Faber is still in design stage, but we can share you this WIP screenshot that shows a stub of the main window.

Faber Media Editor, first screenshoot

Hi all, it’s been a bit of time from the last post, fortunately there are some good news for you.

The first news is that i was chosen to work on the services kit for GSoC, the project is far from my focus, that is media software, and it relate in particular the Web 2.0. You can read more about it in my blog entry in the official Haiku site :

http://haiku-os.org/blog/barrett/2011-04-28_gsoc_project_services_server_and_contacts_api

The next step after gsoc, will be to integrate Caya with this API.

Another good news is the availability of a yahoo plugin for Caya (http://dev.osdrawer.net/projects/caya-gpl-protocols/repository/entry/trunk/protocols/yahoo), this is a resurrection of the old plugin from im_kit updated to support Caya and use the last libyahoo2 version. It’s stable and working but stil need some polishment, and i’m trying to find a mantainer since i have not time and personal interest to make the needed modifies and include Yahoo in the official Caya release. So if you are a dev interested in yahoo…contact me there’s not complex work to do ATM.

Said that, i will be busy in the next months, but dak seems interested during the summer to work on some parts of the future StilNovo media suite, in fact we are interested in keeping a old software (i don’t want to cite, look at Haikuware’s forum for more infos) that is currently unmantained and abandoned. It is a media editor with audio/video and MIDI capabilities.

It is a simple metronome, the next release will have a new core. The old core implementation was based on a threading mechanism resuting in a unstable and unaccurate metronome. The new core will fit with Haiku’s MediaNode API.

As you can see, the site is still far to be complete, i’m experiencing problems with the stupid wordpress wiki plugin, surely i’ll not use it anymore.
